BMW Z4 sDrive 28i

Even BMW has jumped on the bandwagon with the release of a new 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo 4-Cylinder unit that made its debut on the X1. Today, BMW announced that the Z4 hardtop-roadster will be the first U.S. model to receive the force-fed four-pot.
The 2.0-liter unit will power the Z4 sDrive 28i, which replaces the Z4 sDrive30i that’s motivated by BMW’s renowned 3.0-liter naturally aspirated straight-six. The four-cylinder engine combine highpressure direct-injection and BMW’s VALVETRONIC intake control with a forced induction system consisting of a single twin-scroll turbocharger for an output of 240HP at 5,500 rpm and 260 lb-ft of torque at 1,250 rpm.
In comparison, the inline-6 in the Z4 sDrive 30i delivers 255HP at 6,600 rpm and 220 lb-ft at 2,600 rpm.The Bavarian company said it expects a fuel efficiency gain of approximately 20% over the naturally aspirated engine it replaces when combined with the 8-speed automatic transmission.

BMW M5 Concept

Previewed by this concept, the upcoming, fifth-generation of the ultimate 5-series doesn't look quite so innocent anymore.

It’s safe to assume that the production car will look pretty much exactly like this “concept.” The front fascia is dominated by the fighter-jet-inspired central air intake, which is flanked by—what else?—two more gaping intakes. Unlike the regular 5-series, there are no fog lights on the M5, as M still doesn't put those on its cars. The hood is identical to that of the regular 5-series, and a fender vent is the only giveaway on the side that this is no ordinary 5-series. Get up close, though, and you’ll notice higher numbers stamped into the tire sidewalls, 265/35-20 up front and 295/30-20 out back. With four exhaust pipes and a diffuser, the rear is impressive, if nothing surprising. A small lip spoiler on the trunk increases downforce.

BMW 3-series

The BMW 3-series is both the company’s volume model and the industry’s sports-sedan benchmark. Others try to emulate it, but the 3-series’ great bones and smart evolution have given it a winning combination of road feel, responsiveness, and operating precision.

Next year, BMW will launch the sixth generation of  this quintessential sports sedan; it’s due in the U.S. for the 2013 model year. Code-named F30, the next 3 will come as a four-door first, followed by a station wagon (which may not make it to the States), then a handsome coupe, and, finally, another metal-top coupe/cabriolet.

The 3-series will grow slightly, more so in wheelbase than in overall length. While its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive architecture remains similar to the current model’s, the powertrain package comes in for a big overhaul.

Buick LaCrosse

In addition to having eAssist added to its four-cylinder powertrain, the 2012 Buick LaCrosse is undergoing a few other changes. We aren't talking about styling or content tweaks – instead, General Motors is revising its packaging strategy for the LaCrosse. Buick will be ditching the CX, CXL and CXS trim level designations and simply offer large option packages that encompass all of the available amenities.

For 2012, the 2.4-liter Ecotec engine with eAssist technology will be offered as the "standard" powertrain. We recently had some very limited drive time with an eAssist-equipped LaCrosse (stay tuned for our full impressions), and found the four-cylinder with 182 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque to be pleasantly adequate and its highway rating of 37 miles per gallon downright remarkable. eAssist-equipped cars will look no different than other LaCrosses, save the addition of model-specific 17-inch wheels on efficiency-optimized tires and other fuel-saving upgrades not visible from outside the car.

Fastest ever Ferrari Enzo

The Ferrari Enzo is the ultimate car from the Italian masters.

With 650bhp and 485lb/ft of pulling power, the hypercar will accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.65 seconds and hit 217mph.

It's an engineering masterpiece with Ferrari aficionados Jay Kay, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton and Nick Mason all owning models.

However, for some people 217mph is not enough because German tuners Edo Competition have created the Enzo XX, giving the standard car a bit more oomph by fiddling with the engine, air filter and exhaust manifolds. It now gets carbon ceramic brakes with overall weight reduced by 100kg.

The engine's capacity has been increased from 6-litres to 6.3-litres with the Enzo XX now boasting an epic 800bhp and 575lb/ft of pulling power.

As a result the Edo Enzo will accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds, 0-124mph in 9 seconds and 0-186mph in 19 seconds.

Fastest ever Ferrari Enzo

Edo Enzo rear view

With a top speed of 236mph it's a mentally quick car, destroying the standard Enzo's 217mph v-max but would you really want to buy one?

As a standard car the Enzo is brilliantly brilliant with just 399 standard models ever built. But since it was launched in 2002 a load of these hypercars have been be written off with one Canadian model spontaneously combusting a couple of weeks ago.

When our man Vijay saw the footage he turned the air blue with obscenities before sitting in the corner crying. He didn't really, but he was quite upset.

So we're not sure modifying something as pure as the Enzo is worth doing, particularly because it's one of those rare cars which is appreciating in value. With an original price-tag of £450,000, you'll find it hard to buy one for less than £800,000 today.

Chevrolet Corvette Pricing Announced, $9,495

2011_Z06_2.jpg

First things first, pricing has been announced for all 2011 Chevrolet Corvettes, except the Z06 Carbon Edition shown here.

However, GM has priced both the Z07 Ultimate Performance package (which has the special-edition car's Michelin tires, Brembo brakes and magnetic dampers) and the CFZ Carbon Fiber package (which has all the carbon fiber exterior pieces). The Z07 package costs $9,495 and the CFZ package costs $3,995. Add them both to a 2011 Corvette Z06 ($74,305), plus $950 destination, and you're already at $88,495.

Of course, you'll likely be required to check off the $7,170 premium equipment group (3LZ) in conjunction with these options, boosting the price to the neighborhood of $95K, Corvette Blogger points out. And that gives you some idea how much the 2011 Z06 Carbon Edition will cost.

In other news, the 2011 Corvette ZR1 costs $110,750 with destination -- an increase of $2,920 over the 2010 model. All other trim levels see an increase of just $20.
